About Us | West Wolf Medicinals

We believe in fungi's ability to heal our bodies and the planet. Across centuries and cultures, humans have long understood the healing powers of mushrooms. Modern medical science is just beginning to comprehend their transformative capabilities. We are on the journey to discover them, we hope you will join us.

Meet the Founders — Nicole + Benjamin Wolf

Our Story

West Wolf began on a one-acre farm in Boulder, Colorado.

As mushroom farmers, we were deeply immersed in the world of fungi . We grew gourmet varieties for our local community. But there’s only so much you can cultivate on a small farm. And as we entered our mid-forties, our interest in mushrooms became personal.

We were feeling the shifts of midlife.

Stamina wasn’t what it used to be. Recovery took longer. Creativity felt dulled. Nicole entered perimenopause, and hot flashes and brain fog became part of daily life. We began searching for support. But many conventional solutions came with side effects we weren’t willing to accept.

We didn’t want a lifetime of prescriptions.
We wanted to feel like ourselves again.

Why Medicinal Mushrooms

As farmers, we already respected mushrooms as powerful organisms. When we began diving into the clinical research on adaptogenic and medicinal mushrooms, we were struck by the depth of evidence and the historical evidence — particularly around cognitive function, immune modulation, energy production, and nervous system support.

The science wasn’t fringe. It was compelling. Our ancestors knew.

So we began incorporating medicinal mushrooms into our own lives. The results were meaningful enough that they reshaped our daily rituals — and ultimately, our business.

West Wolf Medicinals was born from that shift.

The Quality Problem We Discovered

As we explored products on the market, we ran into a problem:

Many mushroom supplements were not what they claimed to be.

Some used mycelium grown on grain instead of pure fruiting bodies.
Many did not verify beta-glucan levels — the key active compounds studied in research.
Extraction methods were often unclear or undocumented. Potency was not listed or was very low.

As experienced mushroom farmers, we knew how to ask the right questions.

So we vetted suppliers rigorously:

  • Verified fruiting body sourcing

  • Documented dual-extraction processes

  • Confirmed beta-glucan testing

  • Third-party lab validation

  • Organically certified

If the product didn’t meet scientific standards, we wouldn’t put our name on it.

Making Consistency Easy

The research is clear: medicinal mushrooms work best when taken consistently.

But powders aren’t always convenient. Not everyone wants to change the taste of their coffee or morning routine. And not everyone has time to compare Lion’s Mane versus Cordyceps and interpret clinical studies.

We wanted to simplify the decision.

That’s how our original lifestyle blends were created — thoughtfully combining clinically researched mushrooms (and complementary herbs) to support specific wellness goals. Just add to your morning drink and go.

Introducing Our Single Mushroom Capsules

Over time, customers asked for something even simpler:

Capsules.

So we created a line of single mushroom capsules in easy-to-swallow vegan capsules — using the same high-potency, fruiting body extracts found in our blends.

No fillers.
No mycelium on grain.
No compromise in potency.

Now you can choose targeted benefits:

  • Lion’s Mane for cognitive clarity

  • Cordyceps for cellular energy

  • Lion's Mane & Cordyceps Blend for Menopause Relief
  • Reishi for stress resilience

  • Turkey Tail for immune and microbiome support

  • Chaga for antioxidant defense

Precise. Potent. Convenient.

Why We Do This

We started as farmers.
We became formulators out of necessity.

West Wolf exists to offer medicinal mushroom products that meet the standards of published research — and the lived experience of midlife.

We believe aging should feel steady.
Clear.
Vital.

And that the solutions should be both powerful and practical.

One Keystone Species Supporting Another

At West Wolf Medicinals, we care deeply about giving back. It is one of the core reasons we farm mushrooms and started a medicinal mushroom company: to be of benefit to the world. It guides all we do. Our 1% giveback of all sales supports a mission very close to our heart — using a keystone species, the mushrooms, to save another keystone species, the wolves.

Without healthy wolf populations, ecosystems are thrown out of balance. Predators act as checks on populations further down the food chain. Saving wolves means also saving fragile and complex ecosystems on which thousands of species rely — while also conserving an important piece of our national heritage.
